Pastures New
This week, Meg Whitman announced she will be stepping down at the end of March. Famously stating that no CEO should stay at their post for more than ten years, the end of March marks her own ten as eBay’s Chief Exec.
eBay also announced their fourth-quarter results that happily exceeded expectations. So big news for eBay - however when forecasting their expectations for 2008 they have been slightly more pessimistic, predicting that the slowing economy will have an impact on sales.
With the all the signs pointing toward the dreaded “R” word, one has to wonder what effect this will have on eBay traders. In an ever competitive market which eBay traders will continue to flourish should purchasers inevitable belt-tightening start to bite? I can’t pretend to know the intricacies of macro..or indeed micro economics but surely common sense would have us put our trust in sellers with a good reputation, who continue to offer good products at reasonable prices. If only there was way to set you apart from the crowd and enhance your eBay listings to encourage trust in both the product and you, the seller... At vzaar we think there is a way, and it rhymes with wideo.
John Donahoe is the new man in charge at eBay and we wish him all the best. He’s got big shoes to fill and high expectations to meet, in what seem to be changing times. I’m left wondering, if under new leadership eBay itself will push boundaries, encouraging new ways of selling or whether the eBay users themselves will take the bull by the horns and lead eBay into the future of selling online.
